All you need to know: 15-minute energy pricing in the Synergi app

Starting October 1st, Europe introduced 15-minute electricity pricing intervals—a change that gives consumers more control and flexibility over their energy use.

By switching from hourly to 15-minute prices, households with spot-price contracts can take full advantage of renewable energy when it’s most abundant, optimise their electricity costs, and contribute to a more stable and efficient grid.

Why is this change happening?

The switch to 15-minute electricity pricing is part of a Europe-wide development in the electricity market, where price formation moved from 60-minute intervals to 15-minute intervals. This change allows for a more precise balance between supply and demand and supports a more stable electricity grid.

The transition will be implemented gradually in the Nordic countries and Finland, starting in October 2025. Practices among electricity retailers will vary initially: some will switch their spot-price contracts immediately to 15-minute pricing, while others will remain on 60-minute pricing for the time being.

If the electricity meter in your household does not support 15-minute consumption measurement, the change will also require an upgrade of the meter by your local distribution company.

To make the most of this new system, the Synergi app has updated how it optimises energy use for households with spot price contracts, ensuring you can benefit from every opportunity to save. Here’s how the 15-minute interval will be reflected in the app:

  • Smart charging now optimises based on 15-minute prices.
  • On the home screen, electricity prices will appear in 15-minute intervals.
  • Smart heating and cooling will still optimise hourly, so your home stays efficient and comfortable. We will later assess the algorithm’s development following this change, so we avoid overly frequent optimisations to maintain device functionality.
