Imatra (October 17, 2025)— Imatran Seudun Sähkönsiirto Oy has launched a pilot with Synergi Solutions Oy, enabling households in its distribution network area to test remotely controlled demand response. One of the first initiatives of its kind in Finland, the pilot aims to address growing regional electricity demand while supporting the integration of renewable energy in an increasingly electrified society. As the electricity grid requires more flexible consumption from all users, this pilot promotes adaptability—without compromising households’ everyday comfort.
Towards a more flexible energy system
Modern technology solutions – like remote control of devices via Synergi’s software – allow households to participate in grid flexibility without the need for heavy, manual installations. This opens new, cost-effective ways for grid operators to enhance the performance of local electricity networks.
The pilot will provide valuable insights into how household flexibility can be integrated into the electricity grid and what role it could play in future network investment planning. At the same time, it lays the groundwork for a model where households take a more active role in the evolving energy system – and benefit from smarter, more flexible electricity usage.
Pilot participants receive a reward
Customers within the Imatran Seudun Sähkönsiirto distribution area have the opportunity to support the development of their local electricity network by joining the pilot. Participants connect their remotely controlled devices to the Synergi app – and in return, they earn rewards for their flexible electricity use. Participation is free of charge. The pilot is especially ideal for EV drivers, but is also open to local solar power producers and homes with heat pumps.
How to join the pilot
Joining the pilot is simple: just download the free Synergi mobile app and connect your device in less than five minutes using your device manufacturer’s login credentials. If you’re an EV driver, enabling smart charging earns you an additional reward.
- Check here to see if the Synergi app is compatible with your device. If your device is supported, download the free Synergi app from your app store and follow the instructions to connect your device.
- Enable smart charging and charge your EV with it at least once a week to unlock the full reward.
Claiming Your Reward
The reward consists of two parts and is redeemed via the Synergi mobile app:
- €5 for each connected EV, heating/cooling device, or solar panel system (1 reward per household).
- €45 for EV drivers who use Synergi’s smart charging at least a few times per week during the period 7 Jan – 31 Mar 2026. (The same reward applies to early participants. Previously, the reward was €20.)
Pilot Timeline
- Sign up by 31 December 2025.
- Demand response testing runs from 7 January to 31 March 2026.
Already a Synergi user? You can still join the pilot – just update your location in the app to an address within the Imatran Seudun Sähkönsiirto area. This makes you eligible for the rewards listed above.
Benefits for EV drivers
Smart charging is a Synergi app feature designed for EVs. It balances the electricity grid and automatically schedules charging for the most affordable times on the spot market. Your EV connects to the app via cloud services – no extra relays or installation needed. Simply set the desired ready-by time in the app and plug in your vehicle as usual. Synergi takes care of the rest, optimizing charging for both electricity price and grid demand.
The pilot supports all major EV brands, including Audi, BMW, Cupra, Fiat, Hyundai, Jaguar, Kia, Land Rover, Mini, Mustang, Nissan, Porsche, Renault, Seat, Skoda, Tesla, Toyota, Volvo, Volkswagen, and Mercedes-Benz. Pilot participants must use Synergi’s smart charging a few times per week during the testing period to qualify for rewards.
