Meet Bob, our Software Engineer.

Tell us shortly about you!

I'm Bob; I moved from The Netherlands to Finland in March of 2023, right after graduating with my Software Science Master's in Nijmegen, Netherlands. In software, I enjoy planning a solution and architecture from the ground up, making sure upfront that what is being built will work. When I'm not working, I enjoy sports such as swimming, biking, and running. I'm also interested in astronomy 🔭.

Why did you join Synergi?

When I finished my studies, I already had some experience in software engineering and was looking for a place where my knowledge would significantly impact what we do. I wanted to ensure that the work came with interesting challenges which I enjoyed tackling. Before moving to Finland, I had been experimenting with software solutions connecting to Smart Meters, sparking my interest in the energy sector (especially in terms of saving electricity). Synergi came in perfectly, aligning with all of these above points.

What have you learned?

The easiest answer is: "What haven't I learned?". My previous experiences were helpful in terms of learning how to build software. At Synergi, this has expanded in every direction, from project management/facilitation, making the right sacrifices to deliver quality quickly, to broader team communications. Of course, I also learned a lot about the energy sector and Finnish culture!

What's your favorite project thus far?

This is a hard question! I really enjoyed building our Smart features, both Solar Charging and Smart Heating & Cooling. These projects were most interesting, as they allowed me to contribute to everything from ideating to architecting to implementing and finally to see people use and enjoy it.

What are your colleagues like?

Everyone on the team is hardworking but also very relaxed. We want to get stuff done fast, but this does not translate to a tense working environment. There is always room for a laugh or some nonwork-related matters at the office or in online meetings. I also enjoy our activities outside of work, such as during offsites.

In your opinion, what are the growth opportunities that this company offers?

At Synergi, you can make a big impact on what we are focusing on at any point. If you know a lot about improving some part of the system, and you can convince the others that we need to work on it, we will do just that. You can also choose to take full action on a project we have and facilitate it from start to end, allowing you to grow all of the skills needed for the facilitation.
