As per tradition, our CEO and Co-Founder, Antti Hämmäinen, shares about another year at Synergi, the current challenges and opportunities surrounding the energy sector, and what is on the horizon for the new year.
To start off, here is our year in review:

In 2025, we continued to grow our user base to thousands of households all over Europe. We expanded from 11 countries to 14 countries where consumers use the Synergi app to optimize their energy use.
Our digital footprint has not gone unnoticed—our company was featured across different consumer, tech, business and trade media over 40 times. Synergi even made it to Finnish national television - not once, but twice.

We were also present at a handful of events this year, both as exhibitors and speakers. For example, our COO Harri was invited to speak at Enlit, where he showcased how Synergi's pioneering reward-based engagement solutions can turn everyday customers into active contributors to VPP performance and grid resilience.

We also won a pitching competition in Switzerland as part of Energy Day. As a result, we got the opportunity to attend and speak at the Swissolar Battery Congress. Once again, receiving additional validation that Synergi's offering for end-users, utilities, and DSOs continues to resonate on a European scale.
Launching Finland’s first EV VPP
The first two years of Synergi went into building out our smart optimisation features and use-cases for both households and utilities. However, this year has gone into building our technical aggregation and VPP capabilities.
As result, this November, we finally launched Finland’s first EV-powered virtual power plant and became a qualified provider for reserve markets, such as mFRR. In practice, this means have started bidding and trading EV flexibility to help balance the Finnish grid and reward consumers in the process.
How this works for the end-user is as follows: Traditionally, smart charging has optimised charging based only on the day-ahead prices, but Synergi’s new approach takes this further. We pool together thousands of EV’s charging at the same time, and offer the grid operator momentary access to either increase or decrease the charging - offering the grid more flexibility to make sure it can stay in balance in case of fluctuations.
Drivers receive monetary incentives determined by two factors: the duration of charging and the total energy consumed (kWh). This structure rewards users not only for energy usage but also for providing grid flexibility by keeping their vehicles connected for extended periods.
Preparing Synergi for a wider VPP rollout - one device category at a time
While the Synergi app has supported energy optimization for EVs, heat pumps, and solar panels for some time, EVs are the first device class we've brought to flexibility markets. Finland proved it works—now we're scaling.
Next up: heating and cooling assets, followed by solar PV. Soon, households will earn money by connecting these assets and letting Synergi tap into their flexibility. After that, we're adding batteries and water heaters to complete the picture—all household assets connected and optimized in one place.
This is our vision: maximise every distributed energy resource, no matter where you are.

Closing new deals with utilities and DSOs
This year has also been extremely successful—we have closed several new utility and DSO deals where we have proven how Synergi can be a utility company's main smart optimization partner and together start acquiring the necessary megawatts utilities need to start maximizing their own electricity customer flexibility.
An example of a partnership that has started as a pilot all the way to an official partnership this year is Helen—one of the largest energy companies in Finland with over 600,000 customers. You can read more about our partnership with Helen here.

Synergi continues to expand its footprint across Finnish and international utilities as well as other energy-sector players.
We are also currently conducting a handful of pilots with DSOs, such as KSS Verkko and Imatran Seudun Sähkö in Finland, where we are testing the impact of household flexibility on local grid balancing. You can read about our collaboration with KSS Verkko here and Imatran Seudun Sähkö here.
We also started our first international collaborations in countries such as Switzerland, where we are currently conducting a handful of pilots with leading energy companies to help build a robust household flexibility offering for their customers.
Welcoming new team & board members
All these amazing growth that we have achieved this year is thanks to Synergi’s hardworking team. Our team grew again with the addition of Gerrerth Kaur and The Trinh Minh joining us both as Software Engineers in the product team. We also welcomed a new board member, Mike Strahlman, who brings more than 15 years of experience in distributed energy resources (DERs), energy markets, and strategic growth to support Synergi’s international expansion.
Next promises to be an even more exciting one as we continue to accelerate the adoption of Synergi’s VPP solutions outside of Finland.
With that being said, we want to thank everyone who has supported us—customers, investors, partners, our community, family & friends, and especially all our users! Thank you for your trust in Synergi and for playing an inspirational role in our growth. We are more driven than ever to keep developing our platform and help make energy use smart and flexible for all.
